#1 creating > consumption
Like most, I spend a great part of my day consuming media.
What I don’t do enough of and wish to do more of is create. Here are the reasons why (mostly excuses):
I don’t want to add to internet noise, made up of TikToks, LinkedIn posts, and the limitless podcasts
I don’t have time. Oh, the precious thing I waste scrolling through other’s creations.
I have been brainwashed by a degree in creating writing to see writing as labor, and if I am not going to monetize time spent creating, then it’s not worth spending my time on at all.
Another horrendous side effect of my creative writing degree workshops: if it’s not perfect, then it shouldn’t be published.
I can’t settle on a niche. I’m terrified of committing to one topic.

With this newsletter, I hope to deconstruct these four myths on a bi-weekly cadence. I’ll reflect on my time - including the media I interact with, ideas, and experiences as a girl (woman? person?) going through her late twenties.
In the meantime, I’ll drop what I’m currently reading - I find that whatever I read temporarily shifts the framework through which I view my reality. Here are the works responsible for my current view on life:
I got an advanced reader’s copy of Mellor’s novel and now I miss my sisters
The Tibetan Book of the Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche
I read a couple of pages every morning. I like to start my mornings with some kind of spiritual or philosophical book before moving on to my paid work and the capitalist realm.
Thank you, dear readers, I hope you’ll join me on this journey!
